Marine Design and Research Institute of China Towing Tank Laboratory

2025/12/16

In May 2009, the Large-Scale Multi-Functional Towing Tank was officially completed and put into operation, having since conducted experimental tests on hundreds of models of various ships, craft, and special marine equipment, supporting the R&D of numerous national key and frontier Items. In 2019, the laboratory successfully obtained the Certificate of Validation for the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) issued by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), with the authority and international credibility of its experimental data formally recognized by leading international Class Societies.

Since the laboratory became a member of the International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC) in 1978, eight experts have served as members of various ITTC Technical Committees, among whom Researcher Wang Jinbao served consecutively for two terms as Chair of a Technical Committee, delivering a prominent Chinese voice in the formulation of international hydrodynamic technical standards. In 2016, the laboratory further advanced its status by becoming a member of the ITTC Advisory Council, actively participating in the planning and coordination of international frontier technical directions, thereby establishing a significant position in the field of international ship hydrodynamics research.
